PTO Volunteer Opportunities
Executive Board
- President
- Provides PTO leadership
- Conducts board meetings
- Guides board decisions and actions
- Monitors financial planning and reports
- Plays a leading role in directing subcommittees
- Vice-President
- Performs President’s responsibilities when President cannot be available
- Assumes two-year leadership commitment as next President
- Participates closely with President, taking part in all aspects of President’s job in order to facilitate smooth officer transition
- Past President
- Provides guidance to President to facilitate smooth officer transition
- Remain active in PTO activities
- Treasurer
- Manages day-to-day finances of the PTO (depositing donations, writing checks, keeping all financial records)
- Provides an annual budget to board for approval; ensures that expenses are in line with budget
- Presents financial reports at board meetings
- Secretary
- Manages minutes of board meetings; distributes minutes promptly after each meeting
- Serves as resource for prior PTO actions and decisions
- Maintains PTO records from year to year, providing storage as necessary
- Hospitality Chairperson
- Leads committee of volunteers to support school wide activities with refreshments throughout the year. Some activities include Teacher Appreciation Week and Family Night.
- Landscape Chairperson
- Leads Landscaping Committee in conducting activities throughout year to enhance appearance of school campus
- SPMT Representative
- The School Planning Management Team meets twice a month after school to address school policies, needs of teachers and students, and to address other miscellaneous business. The SPMT consists of teachers, administrators and a representative from PTO. It is a means of keeping all involved parties in tune and in touch with each other. The PTO rep. position can be shared so that each person would only need to attend one meeting per month. Reports to PTO at monthly meetings.

- Represent your grade level teachers, Liaison between pto board and grade level teams.
PTO Committees/Groups 6th 7th 8th Grade Parent Teams
Serve with group of grade level parents to
- provide hospitality items for teachers under leadership of Hospitality Chairperson
- works hand in hand with Hospitality committee
- assist grade level teachers as needed for special Paideia projects
(6th – Rainforest Night, 7th – Hungry Planet, 8th - FLOW)
Hospitality Committee
A committee of parents who contribute items for refreshments throughout the year. Committee members will contact other grade level parents to help with events such as Teacher Appreciation Week and other school activities. Plan, promote and coordinate such events. Led by a chairperson.
Cougar Wear
Coordinate sale of Cougar Wear (t-shirts, sweatshirts) for AMS students and staff. Pre-orders are made via homeroom teachers and front office. Once a week, Cougar Wear chairman fills orders. Sales are also made at selected events throughout school year…Open House, 6th grade Paideia night, etc.
Stay-At-Home Fundraiser
Mail out fundraiser cards to all AMS parents once in fall and once in spring. Mail thank you notes to contributors. A great way to volunteer on a tight schedule…can be done at home at your convenience.
PTO Web Link/Face Book Page
Work with our school staff web director to keep our PTO website/ face book page up to date with current information about PTO and school events.
Marquee
Update our marquee in the front of the school once a week. This sign advertises school events to our students, parents and community.
AMS Family Nights/Diversity and Inclusion Events
Coordinate school wide event to welcome families to the AMS campus and celebrate the diversity of our student population! Fall PTO open house, Winter-Thanksgiving family meal with students, Late Winter-Spring event. Led by chairperson.
Landscaping Committee
Get out your gardening gloves! Enjoy a good dose of playing in the dirt with a committee of volunteers who participate in various projects throughout the year to improve the appearance of our campus. Led by chairperson.
School Directory
Collect contact information and create a database of students and parents in the AMS family. Publish a school directory to be used by PTO board members to contact parents for PTO sponsored activities.
AMS PTO
All parents, guardians, staff and students are members of our AMS PTO. We do not charge a membership fee and by attending this school you are a valued member of the AMS PTO
Are you willing to serve on our PTO Board in a LEADERSHIP position that requires organizing, leading and promoting our school community?
We also have many volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule that do not require you to be in a leadership position.

AMS PTO Stay-At-Home Fundraiser Please take a moment to consider giving financially to your school PTO so we can continue to support your students and their teachers. We hope you will appreciate the simplicity of this fundraiser. Our goal this year is $6,000. One hundred percent of your donations will stay at AMS. Click here to download the flier.
